Polybutylenterephthalat (PBT)

Polybutylenterephthalat (PBT)

Polybutylene terephthalate, or PBT for short, has similar properties to polyamide, but without the problem of water intake. Thus, PBT does not show any moisture expansion, the volume remains the same. This means that the mechanical properties of the PBT end parts remain unchanged.

PBT is especially valued as a construction material because of its high degree of toughness, stiffness and hardness. Additionally, it is a very frictionless and wear-resistant plastic and can be used in many different areas because of its wide range of working temperatures.
Furthermore, PBT has a very good chemical resistance to many solvents and is much more resistant to oxidation compared to polyamides.
MACOMASS supplements the positive material properties of PBT with our finishing know-how on customer-optimised PBT compounds.
Reinforcements incorporated into MACOMASS PBT compounds make it possible to give more stiffness, higher mechanical toughness and better heat resistance to the components under mechanical strain.

We can provide customer-specific finishes like:

  • Glass fibre reinforcement
  • Glass bead reinforcement
  • Hybrid reinforcement from GF and GB
  • Carbon reinforcement
  • CNT
  • Elastomer modification
  • Nucleating agent for short cycles
  • Flame protection, halogenated
  • Flame protection, non-halogen
  • PBT blends with ASA, elastomers, among others
